ELC Junior Program at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB)
The Junior Program at UCSB offers a spectacular and sunny location that gives students access to outdoor activities and is within walking distance to the beach.
General Information
- 2-week minimum enrollment
- Saturday arrival and departure
- Program includes: English lessons, full-board dormitory accommodations, daily afternoon activities (Monday-Friday) and evening activities (most evenings), full-day Sunday excursions
- 15:1 student to staff ratio
- Airport: LAX Airport or Santa Barbara Airport
- Compulsory transportation fee: $120 (includes round-trip airport transfer valid on Saturday arrivals/departures between 9am-9pm as well as transportation to/from activities included in the junior program)
Course
- General English: Semi-Intensive English Program, 20 lessons per week (50 minutes per lesson)
- Internationally mixed classes
- Classes take place between 9:00am-12:40pm (Monday-Friday)
- Maximum of 15 students per class
- Classes are held in university classrooms on campus
Accommodation: Santa Catalina Dorm
- Double room occupancy, full-board (half-board on Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday)
- Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs and closets
- Students can use the telephone located at the front desk for local calls (free of charge) and international calls (with a calling card)
- Bathrooms are en-suite (bathrooms adjoin two double rooms, 4 students share each bathroom)
- Linens and bath towels included, student can receive fresh linens from the front desk upon request
- Bathrooms and common areas cleaned daily
- Laundry facilities located in the dormitory (estimated $1.25 per wash, $0.25 per dry per 10 minutes)
Campus Facilities
- Free access to a recreation room with TV, ping-pong, foosball (located in the dormitory)
- Students can visit The University Center on campus, which is home to the UCSB Bookstore, a food court and post office
- Students are welcome to use the UCSB Recreation Center which includes gym facilities, pools and a climbing wall
- Students enjoy use of tennis courts, half basketball court, pool, field space and sand volleyball court
- UCSB is within walking distance to beautiful beaches

Activities & Excursions
Students participate in afternoon activities Monday-Friday. Afternoon activities are compulsory and are included in the junior program package. Evening and Saturday activities are also offered to all students. Evening and Saturday activities are optional and students will be charged for the fees associated with the activity they choose. ELC offers at least one free or low cost activity option every evening. Please refer to the sample calendar for sample activities.
Afternoon activities

At UCSB, ELC offers surf lessons in place of afternoon activities (for an additional fee). Students can participate in surf lessons 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). For additional information about the afternoon surf lesson option please contact ELC.
Evening activities
- Optional
- Multiple different options offered every evening
- At least one free or low cost activity available every evening
- Some evening activities may cost money (ex. Shopping/Dining on State Street: transportation & food cost)
Saturday activities
- Optional
- Saturday activities do have fees associated with participation
- Students who do not wish to participate in Saturday optional activities can enjoy hanging out with other ELC students and staff on and around campus

Sunday excursions
- Required that all students participate in the full-day Sunday excursion
- Full-day Sunday excursions are included in the junior package
