GENERAL INFORMATION

Dates:

January 7, 2017 - February 4, 2017
(Saturday to Saturday minimum 2-week enrollment)

Ages: 14 - 17 years old

Course: Semi-Intensive English Program - 20 lessons per week (50-minute lessons)

Certification: Students receive ELC Certificate of Completion

Accommodation: Homestay accommodation

Occupancy: Double room

Meals: Half-board (14 meals per week)

Activities: Afternoon and/or evening activities Monday-Friday, full-day excursions each Sunday

Airport Transfer: Included in the transportation fee, valid for Saturday arrivals and departures between 9am-9pm

Transportation to school: Students receive a public transportation pass to get to/from school

MORNING COURSES

Explanation of Courses

Number of levels: 12

English level evaluation with multi-level placement: Placement testing includes a grammar section, a writing section, and an interview with the Director of Courses. The three separate components of the test allow us to make accurate placements for each of the student's classes.

Grammar Structure and Usage

  • Teaches students the rules of grammar usage through communicative teaching methods.
  • Gives students the opportunity to practice using grammar in both speaking and writing.

Conversation, Listening, Vocabulary and Pronunciation

  • Gives students practice speaking in English and listening to and understanding English spoken by native speakers.
  • Provides students with feedback and special exercises to help improve pronunciation.

ACCOMMODATION at ELC SANTA BARBARA

  • Arrival on Saturday or Sunday before the course; departure on Saturday after the course
  • Double room (shared with other junior student)
  • Half-board (breakfast and dinner)
  • Average commute 30 - 60 minutes via private transportation

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS

Students participate in afternoon activities Monday-Friday. Afternoon activities are compulsory and are included in the junior program package. Evening and Saturday activities are also offered to all students. Evening and Saturday activities are optional and are done with the student's host family. Please refer to the sample calendar for sample activities.

ELC Junior Programs - English Language Center

ELC offers summer residential junior programs for students between the ages of 11- 13, and 14-17 years at four different locations: UCLA (Los Angeles, CA), UCSB (Santa Barbara, CA), and Wheelock College (Boston, MA), and MIT (Cambridge, MA). All junior programs take place in July and August. Junior Programs are carefully supervised by ELC staff and include a full range of exciting activities and excursions in addition to course and accommodation.
