On Valentine’s Day this year, ELC Santa Barbara brought flowers, baked goods, and smiles to students and staff. Raising money for the American Cancer Society’s cancer research is reason enough to eat an excessive amount of cupcakes. We sold flower grams and held an abundant bake sale and raised a whopping… $225!
For the affordable price of $1, students could buy valentines that would be delivered to their “special someone” in class attached to a red rose. In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, students discreetly and not so discreetly wrote their friends and loved ones special messages. Some students used this opportunity to express admiration for their teachers, form new friendships, and even confess a crush. Regardless, hugs and laughter were seen and heard throughout the halls all day long.
In addition to our flower grams, our bake sale was a huge success. Teachers and staff prepared so many delicious treats that the counters looked like a dessert army has descended upon the school. Some of the baked goods included cupcakes baked in ice cream cones, Reese’s brownies, avocado cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, homemade M&M cookies, lemon bars, and so much more! There was not a dry sweet tooth for miles. Ranging from 25 cents to 1 dollar, everyone was more than happy to purchase a treat. Many students even made extra donations.
At the end of the day, with bellies and hearts full, everyone here at ELC Santa Barbara went home with a warm feeling that only comes around on Valentine’s Day. Every day is the right day to show admiration for the people who inspire, support, and care for you. But this Valentine’s Day, we decided to express it in a sweeter way.
