ELC Santa Barbara Student Spotlight: Luana Oliveira Couto Gomes Torres June 24th, 2016

This month we caught up with Luana Oliveira Couto Gomes Torres. Luana is from Brazil and is 18 years old. She studied in the Semi-Intensive English Course. Read below to learn more about Luana:

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself…

I’m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’m 18 years old. I’ll study Psychology and I intend to work with kids. I love traveling and meeting new people. My goal in life is to definitely visit all kinds of places and go to as many countries as I can!

What are your hobbies?

I like to read, go to the beach, spend time with my friends. I also enjoy listening to music and going to air or history museums!

Do you have any hidden talents?

No unfortunately not!

Did you experience culture shock when you came to the USA?

No not at all. Everybody here in Santa Barbara is so friendly and does everything in their power to help you.

What do you miss about your country?

The food. I also miss my friends and family.

Why did you choose Santa Barbara?

I chose to study English in Santa Barbara because of the weather! Also because it’s a smaller town and it’s surrounded by nature and I love this!

What do you like about ELC?

Everything! I love all of the teachers, staff, and students. I really like the environment of the classes and the activities after school. Everything is great!

What advice would you give to prospective students?

If you have the chance to study abroad at a language school or university don’t hesitate! It’s the best way to learn a language. You will meet a lot of great people from all over the world you will have incredible experiences and learn about different cultures. you will grow personally and have a great life experience. You will come back a brand new person, more mature and ready to explore the rest of the world!
